Surgical Facial Rejuvenation

Facelifts Age is a progressive process that is genetically predetermined. The face will deflate, descend and deteriorate. This leads to a specific clinical presentation of deep and superficial facial wrinkles in conjunction with neck wrinkles and changes in neck muscle orientation. Once these changes are defined the treatments can be planned and executed. The facelift is designed to remove and tighten loose skin and lax muscles. In order to achieve long term results the reconstruction of the structures is a multilayer endeavor. The facelift procedure will soften the depth of the nasolabial folds; contour the lower jawline and the laxity of skin and fat on the lower face and in the neck. Necklifts An undisputable sign of aging are changes in the texture and tightness of the skin of the neck. The platysma muscle begins to atrophy and striate. This results in banding of the neck muscles and an unsightly accordion effect of the neck skin. The necklift will correct the deformity in the muscle position in the neck and correct the skin and soft tissue excesses in the neck. Eyelid Lifts Aging can be readily seen in the soft tissue around the eyes. Over time the skin and fat around the eyes become loose, wrinkled and budging reducing the eye opening and ability to see. An eyelid lift removes the excess skin on the lids and either repositions the fat in and around the orbit or removes excesses. The eyelid lift can focus either on the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids or both. Browlift The eyebrows frame the eyes and help to support the upper eyelids. As the underlying structures age the position of the eyebrows lower and the upper eyelids descend as a consequence. In some instances this can result in less light reaching the eye and therefore impairing vision. A browlift or even a forehead lift will raise the eyebrows, stabilize the underlying tissues thereby opening the eye aperture and creating a more open and youthful appearance.

Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation

Dermapen One of the most advanced techniques used to eliminate fine wrinkles, treat acne scarring, discoloration of aging and greatly improve skin texture. Microneedling is the specific technique performed by the Dermapen device to transform the facial skin to its more youthful nature with a few thorough treatments. ViPeel The outer layer of the dermal surface of the skin is the epidermis which possesses many cell layers genetically designed to protect the body from the atmosphere. Over time the environment, genetics and personal behavior will cause damage to these most important layers of skin. Age and the environment slow down the process of exfoliating and rejuvenating the outer skin layers which result in the clinical manifestations of “looking older”. The ViPeel uses Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) 7%, Salicylic Acid 2%, Retinoid Acid 8%, Phenol, Glycolic Acid, and Vitamin C. Retin-A is a proven wrinkle fighter while TCA relieves fine wrinkles and surface blemishes. These chemicals will dissolve those damaged outer layers of epidermis in order to allow new and rejuvenating cell growth. Chemical Peels There are many other mild acids that are used to exfoliate the epidermal layers of the skin in order to promote a more youthful skin appearance. Trichloroacetic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Lactic Acids can all be used to exfoliate at different levels depending on the skin type and the results desired. Laser Skin Resurfacing Lasers are frequently used to melt or vaporize the skin cells stimulating the regrowth of those cells to a more youthful presentation. Because the skin presents itself with many pigments of color the laser light is attracted to the various pigments of color and will vaporize those specific colors depending on the origin of the laser light. One of the more common types of lasers used is the CO2 laser. Not only will the laser exfoliate the skin it will also stimulate the growth of collagen and elastin in order to make the skin more youthful and have a different glow.

Body Contouring

Liposuction Liposuction is one of the most common cosmetic surgical procedures performed today. Liposuction is a technique developed to remove localized areas of exercise resistant and diet resistant fat. Fat is removed from beneath the skin to assist in shaping and contouring the body so that clothes fit better and look more youthful. There are many tools developed using various technological advances that can assist in the removal of body fat and aiding in subcutaneous healing. No technique alone is adequate to create an acceptable result. Only the operating surgeon creates the result the tools are only “aids”. Abdominoplasty The abdominoplasty or “Tummy Tuck” is a procedure designed to address the presence of excess abdominal wall skin, stretch marks and abdominal wall muscle disharmony. The abdominoplasty is not a procedure to treat the “obese” abdomen but the abdomen that is loose, unsightly and not fitting well in clothes. Buttock Augmentation Fat transfer to the butt has become the most popular procedure to enhance the buttock. Adipose tissue that presents in inappropriate areas can be removed and repositioned to the buttock so that there is a more proportioned body. Fat Transfer Tissue augmentation is extremely popular in creating a more youthful appearing body especially the face. Industry attempts to create fillers to be biologically safe and reproducible. Fat is autologous and does not present rejection issues, is natural and is plentiful. Fat can be extracted and placed in many places in the body such as the face, lips, hands, breast and other locations.

Breasts

Breast Augmentation Augmentation is one of the more popular cosmetic surgical procedures and is designed to enlarge and reshape the breasts. One of the more common reasons is to reshape the breasts after childbirth. Breast augmentation to enhance personal image and sex appeal is highly sought after and is frequently requested. Another request is to create breast symmetry when a woman realizes her breasts are uneven due to congenital or genetic development. Salt water or Silicone gel implants can be used in order to augment the breast. The choice of implant is the decision of the patient after consulting with a qualified Plastic Surgeon. Breast Lifts Breasts change dramatically with age, over time, weight gain and childbearing. Loss of tissue elasticity and the force of gravity result in the breasts and the defining structure, the nipple, moving to a lower position making the breasts look older. A breast lift repositions the breast, the nipple and reshapes the tissue. Many times an implant can be used in order to rejuvenate the breast and regain its more youthful appearance. There are numerous techniques used to effect this change leaving different degrees of scarring. The different techniques should be discussed with your qualified Plastic Surgeon. Breast Reductions Large breasts are frequently sought after by many women in our society. When the breast size is out of proportion of the body’s mechanics a breast reduction becomes appropriate. Many women will complain of neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain and even chest pain justifying the need for smaller breasts. A breast reduction is designed to reshape the breast and creating a smaller breast so that the breasts are more proportionate to the rest of the body. Once again scars remain after the breast reduction and the techniques used should be discussed with you qualified Plastic Surgeon. Breast Reconstruction Breast Cancer remains an extremely common disease in women and to a lesser extent even men. Treatment of the cancer may include removal of parts of the breast or infrequently the entire breast. For women with a genetic predisposition to develop breast cancer the breasts may be removed prophylactically. Rebuilding the breast can be performed in many different ways. The patient and the patient’s partner and even the family should meet with the reconstructive plastic surgeon in order to discuss rebuilding the breast. The most important issue is to be sure that the cancer is properly treated and the patient’s life is preserved. The reconstruction should follow after that.

Body Transformation after Massive Weight Loss Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric surgery is a procedure designed to reduce the size of the stomach so that fewer calories will enter the stomach and therefore present fewer calories to be absorbed and transformed into fat. It is not uncommon for the patient to lose up to 30% of their body’s weight which will result in excessive amounts of loose unsightly skin. Patients with excess body weight are frequently extremely unhappy and become equally unhappy as a result of the excess skin due to the successes of the bariatric surgery. There a numerous procedures designed to treat these excesses in order to make the patients feel whole again. Consult your Plastic Surgeon to discuss the plan to be made whole again. Age Management Therapy Age is measured in several different ways. Chronologic age and physiologic age can be evaluated in order to assess the clinical manifestations essentially judged by function. Age is progressive and at present science nor medicine is not able to alter the progression very well. Age management medicine analyses the biochemical measures in the body and compares them to the age appropriate general population. With this knowledge age management physicians can alter the chemical physiology to adjust it to a more youthful period. The process requires a complete physical examination, thorough biochemistry assessment, fitness analysis and nutrition evaluation in order to determine the appropriate approach to slow the progression of age and enhance a more youthful behavior. IV Nutritional Therapy Concentrated administration of vitamins and nutrients to the body through the veins. IV therapy can be used to boost energy, treat anxiety, reduce stress, anti-inflammatory treatment, or for before and after surgical treatments. Weight Loss Treatments A large percentage of American adults and now even children are overweight and secondarily unhealthy. Weight loss and attempts to manage weight to achieve a healthy size is an extremely desirable request. Because society has become sedentary and consumes many calorie dense foods losing body weight is needed in order to improve overall health of the society. Maintaining a health appropriate weight is less a beauty requirement and much more a health issue. To achieve those healthy goals consult a certified physician and a qualified dietitian.
